We learned that koi love to make a mess of lily pots in a pond - and they enjoy munching on new growth from the plants. So, we have a separate pond just for the water lilies - about 2 feet deep. The benefits are plants and flowers, but we now have to fertilize the pots since there is no natural fish fertilizer in this pond.
